From Dunedin we drove down (and back) the Otago Penninsula...it was gorgeous, the rolling hills of green down to the sea were breath-taking! This is the place to see the one and only castle in NZ (remember the scottish heritage of this region!) and albatross and penguin viewing. Needless to say, we saw it all! :)

Lanarch Castle

The gardens had an Alice in Wonderland theme, complete with royals, the queen of heart's thrown and a chesire cat hiding in a tree..

I swear, the misty morning added to the charm..!

We went off-roading on this 8-wheeler through the conservation area were we spotted the rare (and very shy!) penguins, as well as fur seals and cormorants.

We took the highroad out and the low road back. The high road gave amazing views, the low road drove through cute water-side villages, views of boatsheds and the very real fear of ending up in the sea!

Albatross Point- you can't really tell, but the sky is FULL of swarming seagulls and giant albatross (with a wingspan of 3yards!!).
