NZ Glaciers!

The south island of NZ holds two glaciers, Franz Josef and Fox. They were amazing! What was really crazy was how these massive frozen rivers were surrounded by gorgeous green ferns and rainforest! We hiked up to each of them; due to flooding we had to take off our shoes and cross icy rivers barefoot, got to watch massive ice chuncks tumbling down the raging portions of the river and actually see parts of the glacier fall!! It sounded like the crack of thunder and really made me feel like I was an adventurer on the discovery channel! :)

The path to the riverbed.
Massive waterfalls surged from the tops of the towering cliffs (thanks to all the rain!)
Lauren hiking towards Franz Josef glacier... I'm attempting to show a bit of the awe-striking size of our surroundings..

Me, being a rebel and touching the glacier (a chunk had just fallen and almost crushed someone..)

The ice cave
See.. ferns and glacier.. so weird
Gotta love the sign
This is Fox Glacier.. note the "extreme danger" signs in the background.. we are such adventurers!! Hee hee! (BYW- it is SO much bigger than it appears in pictures!)
