I took one of the many ferries from the heart of downtown Auckland 30 minutes away to Half Moon Bay. From there I explored on foot (i.e. missed the bus), making my way 1 1/2 hours later to Howick, a quaint historical village. I then magically caught the bus back and wandered down the coast to explore Bucklands Beach- it was such a gorgeous day!! The beauty of this ferry thing is, even if the place you are going ends up being lame, you always get a great ride on the water out of it!
